Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) Course
Course is designed to meet requirements of IMO Res.A1079(28) and recognised by The Nautical Institute.
Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) Course meets all requirements listed under the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Resolution A.1079(28), and STCW Convention Regulations I/10 & I/02.
Objectives:
For personnel who intend to become an Offshore Installation Manager (OIM), to undertake responsibility for Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) on Mobile Offshore Units (MOU).

Course Content:
- principal structural members and required periodical inspections; basic knowledge of the effects of welding; effects of corrosion on the structure;
- the effect of the mooring system on stability;
- preloading and leg reaction stresses on self-elevating MOUs;
- station-keeping, mooring and dynamic positioning: seabed composition and characteristics; behaviour of mooring systems and force distribution, including the effect of environmental conditions; consequences of failure of the mooring system; anchor placement and recovery, and working with anchor-handling vessels; the principles of the dynamic positioning system, including capabilities and limitations of thrusters, power systems and maximum allowable position offsets;
- transit operations: the 1972 Collision Regulations, as amended; navigation and electronic navigational aids appropriate to the type of MOU; towing procedures, including recovery of tow;
- emergency procedures and safety equipment: life-saving and firefighting procedures, including drills; maintenance and inspection of life-saving and firefighting appliances in accordance with the regulatory requirements; communication procedures in emergencies; precautions to be taken before the onset of heavy weather; evacuation procedures; crisis management and crowd control;
- personnel transfers: precautions to be taken during transfer of personnel; use of the personnel basket; helicopter transfers; vessel transfers;
- handling and stowage of supplies, including dangerous goods: safe handling, stowage and care of equipment, supplies and dangerous goods; cranes and lifting equipment and inspections; procedures for loading and discharge of helicopters and supply vessels;
- pollution prevention and control: pollution prevention systems and equipment; pollution control procedures;
- meteorology: the characteristics of various weather systems; ability to apply available meteorological information to ensure safety of the MOU and, upon request, supply other vessels or aircraft with information; sources of meteorological information; the effects of weather on the environmental limits of the MOU;
- safe working practices: occupational safety, health and hygiene; hazardous areas; permits to work; work over water; work in enclosed spaces; personnel training; understanding of organization and communication; understanding and inspection of safety equipment;
- regulatory and certification requirements, including an appreciation of international and national regulations and recommendations affecting operations;
- industrial operations as they relate to maritime safety, including appreciation of the interrelationship between marine operations and specific industrial activities
Prerequisite
Valid Mobile Offshore Units (MOU) Stability Certificate;
Valid STCW certificate of competency as Master, Chief Mate or Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch;
Valid basic STCW certificates or BOSIET;
Valid Medical Examination
